🦘What's On In Adelaide

Family events, markets and south road news!

Hey Everyone 👋

The social event’s coming together, bit by bit! I’ve been checking out venues all over North Adelaide and other spots around town, just trying to find one that doesn’t cost a fortune.

In the meantime, Loryn, the event host from our community, and I had a good talk on the phone, going over ideas for how the event’s gonna go, and it’s starting to come together.

Right now, I’m not sure when it’ll happen—since i’m new to organising events, I need a bit of time to learn.

Thanks for your patience

~Michael

🚧 Hindley Street Upgrade Begins

Hindley Street is set for a major 15M upgrade — its first since 1999. The revitalisation project will widen footpaths, plant new trees, improve lighting and CCTV, and add more outdoor dining space. With eight times more pedestrians than vehicles during peak times, the redesign focuses on safety and comfort for foot traffic. It also aims to attract daytime businesses and reinvigorate nightlife. 🚨 New Law: Slow Down for Yellow Lights

SA has officially expanded its road safety laws to require motorists to slow to 25km/h when passing any stationary vehicle displaying flashing amber lights — including RAA patrols and tow trucks. This rule, previously only applied to emergency vehicles, is designed to protect roadside workers and the public. [INFO]

🏡 Rent-To-Buy Scheme Targets First-Home Barriers

The SA Government has launched a Rent-To-Buy Affordable Housing initiative to help long-term renters become homeowners. Under the scheme, tenants can lease newly built Housing Trust homes at 75% of market rent for up to three years. After this period, they get the option to buy at a pre-agreed price, shielding them from rising property costs. [INFO]

🦔 Quolls & Possums Thriving in Flinders Ranges

Ten years after being reintroduced to the Flinders Ranges, populations of western quolls and brush-tailed possums are thriving. More than 130 quolls and 30 possums were recently recorded in a single monitoring effort — many of them new individuals. This success, part of the long-running Bounceback conservation program, is due to controlled feral animal populations and safer habitats. Further conservation efforts are now expanding to other native species like red-tailed phascogales, bilbies, and endangered plants in SA’s north. [INFO]

🚦 South Road Megaproject Underway

Massive construction is underway on the 15.4 billion Torrens to Darlington (T2D) project — SA’s largest infrastructure job. The aim is to create a non-stop South Road corridor, bypassing 21 traffic lights and slashing commute times by up to 40 minutes. Two 4.5km tunnels will be drilled using custom-built tunnel boring machines (TBMs), with one expected to arrive in late 2025. The project supports 5,500 jobs and includes targets for apprenticeships, long-term unemployed, and Indigenous employment. [INFO]
