🦘New Adelaide Social Event
Asian street food markets and family fun events plus more.

Hey Everyone 👋
I have an event idea and would love your thoughts.
Since social media, I think it’s become harder for people to make new friends, connect or find partners. Current options like bars, clubs, and parties often fall short.
My solution is a social event night designed to bring strangers together.
Picture a fun evening with food, drinks, and engaging social games, where you meet others in your age group. An event host would guide the night with fun conversation starters. You’d rotate tables to chat with different people throughout the evening. At the end, you could stick around to chat with those you clicked with.
It would be a casual, no pressure environment for people looking to socialize.
Would you attend an event like this?

Ever driven through Adelaide’s CBD and noticed something weird?
You’re on Currie Street, you cross King William Street, and suddenly—you’re on Grenfell Street.
Waymouth becomes Pirie. Gilbert turns into Gilles. Same road, totally new name. What’s going on?
Back in 1837, Colonel William Light designed Adelaide’s iconic grid layout. At its heart? King William Street, named after King William IV, and intended to be the city’s grand central boulevard.
Here’s the quirky bit: city planners followed an old tradition—no street could “cross the King” in name. To symbolically honour the monarch, every east–west street changes its name when it hits King William Street.

Only North Terrace and South Terrace keep their names, likely because they mark the edge of the grid.
So next time you cross King William Street, take a look at the sign—you’re walking through a bit of 180-year-old royal logic that still shapes the city today.
