Anyone who felt the tremor can submit a report through Geoscience Australia’s earthquake monitoring service. INFO
🎄 Fleurieu Christmas Tree Farm Set to Open After Five Years of Growing
A new family-run Christmas tree farm is opening in Hindmarsh Tiers this November. Spring Mount Christmas Trees is home to more than 1,000 trees, with around 100 ready to be cut this year and a further 300 to 400 expected for Christmas 2027. Owners Tony and Katrina O’Connell moved away from raising sheep to grow the trees. Visitors can pick their own tree, which will be cut and carried to their car. The farm opens Friday 27 November, running Fridays from 5pm to 8pm and weekends from 10am to 5pm until Christmas or until the trees sell out. INFO
🛒 Adelaide Supermarket Named International Retailer of the Year
Romeo’s Royal Park Foodland has taken out IGA International Retailer of the Year 2026, following its National Retailer of the Year win in 2025. The family-owned store in Hendon opened in May 2023 and is known for its in-house sushi chefs, wood-fired pizza oven, walk-in cheese room and in-house florist. It also has a dedicated smallgoods area, a nod to the site’s history of making smallgoods. The win marks the Romeo family’s fourth win of the award and comes as IGA celebrates its 100th year. INFO

A traditional lion dance will start at 12:30pm. There will also be a spin-the-wheel competition and Polaroids with a giant bánh mì cut-out. The first 40 customers get a free pocket bánh mì, and anyone spending $30 or more gets 10 per cent off the entire menu. INFO
🍗 Oaklands Park Restaurant Reopens as D1 Korean Table
The former Alice’s Kitchen on Dwyer Road has been completely renovated and rebranded as D1 Korean Table, with its official launch on Wednesday 28 October. Owner Dee, who is also involved in the Ban Ban Korean fried chicken business, has built the menu around shareable dishes. Highlights include sizzling beef hot stone bibimbap, Korean fried chicken in three flavours (snowy cheese, creamy onion, and sweet and spicy), beef japchae and seafood soft tofu stew. Dinner service comes first, with brunch possible in around three months and a neighbouring shopfront secured for a future dessert business. INFO
🐚 Goolwa Pipis Back on the Menu as Season Set to Commence
Goolwa pipis are returning to the menu as South Australia’s annual recreational pipi season begins on 1 November, after the 1 June to 31 October closure. It follows a difficult year in which algal bloom restrictions left beach-collected pipis bait-only for much of the last season. Pipis are most commonly collected between Goolwa and the Murray Mouth, and fishers need to stick to the rules, including the 3.5cm minimum size. At Goolwa Beach the daily bag limit is 330 pipis per person. INFO

💰 The Time Adelaide Made Its Own Gold Coins
Did you know Adelaide once had its own gold coins? Back in 1851, the Victorian gold rush drew thousands of South Australians east, taking much of the colony’s money with them. Banks faced a serious cash shortage, and South Australia was close to bankruptcy. The solution was the Adelaide Assay Office, which melted gold brought back from the goldfields, stamped its weight and purity, and allowed banks to exchange it for banknotes. Then, in 1852, Adelaide went a step further and struck its own £1 gold coins, now known as Adelaide pounds. But the makeshift mint lacked official authorisation from Britain and shut down in February 1853, after producing 24,648 coins.

How many £1 gold coins did Adelaide produce before its makeshift mint closed in 1853?
