🦘Events & happenings this week

New dessert restaurant, markets and positive news.

Good Day 👋

I anticipate having some news to share about the Social Event next week.

Also the Adelaide Museum kindly gave me two free tickets to their Treasures of the Viking Age exhibition for an Instagram post I made about them. I’m not planning on going, so I’ll give them to the first person who replies to this email.

Have a great weekend.

Did you know that wombats produce cube-shaped poop thanks to their unique intestinal muscles? This remarkable adaptation is the result of a specialised digestive process, where the wombat’s intestines feature varying levels of elasticity and muscle thickness. As the feces move through the colon, these muscles compress and shape the waste into distinct cubic forms, a phenomenon rare in the animal kingdom.

This cube-shaped poop, often measuring about two CM on each side, is not just a biological curiosity—it serves a critical ecological and social function. Wombats strategically place these droppings in piles on elevated surfaces like rocks, logs, or even termite mounds to mark their territory, communicating boundaries to other wombats without direct confrontation. This helps them maintain space in their often overlapping home ranges. The cubes’ shape also prevents them from rolling away on slopes, ensuring their territorial message endures.
